Dr. Erik Kruger

Board-Certified Ophthalmology in NYC

Dr. Kruger is a board-certified ophthalmologist with over 20 years of experience in diagnosing and treating retinal diseases, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and holes, and a broad range of other vitreoretinal conditions. He completed his ophthalmology residency at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by fellowships in both retinal imaging and retinal disease at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of Harvard Medical School.

Throughout his career, Dr. Kruger has been a leader in clinical innovation, serving as principal investigator on more than 35 clinical trials—many of which have led to therapies now widely used in everyday retinal care. He has authored or contributed to numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. In addition to English, he speaks conversational Spanish.

When not in the office, Dr. Kruger enjoys traveling with his family and exploring the world through photography. He has a special interest in astrophotography, capturing the night sky one galaxy at a time. He’s also an avid food enthusiast—just as ready to extol the virtues of a great slice of pizza as he is a complex molé, and everything in between.

Dr. Kruger values the opportunity to connect with patients beyond their diagnoses and considers it a privilege to be a part of their care journey.
